“Duets” is a song cycle that rests in the uneasy experience of locational and relational transience - a deep feeling of impermanence in the midst of a powerful longing for established familiarity. It is a project that has followed me for over a year now, being developed in Nashville, expanded in Chicago, mixed in Brooklyn NY, and completed in Portland, OR.

Originally recorded as cello and piano improvisations, and later refined into 5 concise pieces, I didn’t realize how much that theme of action -> revision would follow me this year. I am certain it’s always been the pattern, but this year the cycles have repeated themselves with more presence. This album is marking that awareness for future reference.
